More Than 20 Manipur BJP MLAs Leave for Delhi Ahead of Crucial Meeting with Party High Command
Over 20 Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs from Manipur, including former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, departed Imphal for New Delhi on Saturday to attend a meeting convened by the party’s central leadership on December 14.
The collective movement of the BJP’s legislative members comes at a critical juncture, as Manipur continues to grapple with political uncertainty and questions surrounding the future of governance. The meeting, called by the BJP high command, is being widely viewed as significant, particularly amid speculation over the possible formation of a new government in the state.
Several MLAs expressed optimism before leaving, stating that discussions in Delhi could lead to a favourable outcome. While some legislators suggested that the meeting may focus on government formation, others said the precise agenda would become clear only after interacting with senior party leaders.
BJP MLA Yumnam Khemchand Singh said the purpose of the meeting would be known upon arrival in Delhi, adding that his primary concern remained the restoration of peace and stability in Manipur. Usham Deben Singh indicated that a new government could potentially be formed either in the last week of December or early January.
Another MLA, Khumukcham Joykishan, noted that while no formal communication had been received regarding the agenda, the meeting was likely linked to discussions on forming a government.
Apart from N. Biren Singh, other BJP MLAs travelling to New Delhi include Achab Uddin, Sagolsem Kebi Singh, Thongam Bishwajit Singh, Paonam Brojen Singh, Kh. Ibomcha Singh, Thokchom Satyabrata Singh, K. Robindro Singh, and Tongbram Robindro Singh, along with several other party legislators.
The outcome of the meeting is expected to provide clearer direction on the BJP’s strategy in Manipur in the coming weeks.
