Kuki Militants group fire Multiple Rounds in Bishnupur District

Imphal, Dec 16 — Panic spread across parts of Bishnupur district on Tuesday night after unknown armed individuals opened fire in the district’s peripheral areas, officials confirmed.

According to authorities, multiple gunshots were reported near Phougakchao Ikhai, a locality close to the Bishnupur–Churachandpur border. Security officials said efforts are underway to determine the origin of the firing and the direction in which the shots were aimed.

The incident, which occurred near the foothill region, created fear and anxiety among residents of nearby villages, prompting many to remain indoors.

In response, additional security forces were immediately deployed in the area to stabilize the situation and prevent any escalation.

The incident occurred only days after Meitei and Kuki BJP MLAs met the party’s central leadership in Delhi, where unity, restoration of free and safe movement between hill and valley areas, and political stability in Manipur were strongly emphasised despite ongoing ethnic tensions.

Officials said investigations are ongoing and more details will be shared as they emerge.
