Manipur Police Arrest Two Drug Smugglers, Seize Narcotics Worth ₹40 Crore

In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Manipur Police and Assam Rifles have arrested two alleged smugglers in separate anti-narcotics operations, seizing a large quantity of contraband drugs with an estimated market value of over ₹40 crore, officials said on Saturday.

In the first operation, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of Manipur Police arrested Singamayum Mohammad, 28, a resident of Konuma Makha Leikai, Laphupat Tera in Imphal West district. He was apprehended on Friday near Sangai Ethnic Park at Moirang Khunou under the jurisdiction of Keibul Lamjao Police Station in Bishnupur district. During a search, police recovered 102 grams of heroin No. 4 from his possession. Along with the narcotics, officials also seized a mobile phone with a SIM card and a Honda Activa two-wheeler, which was allegedly used in drug-related activities.

In a separate but coordinated operation, Assam Rifles, acting on specific intelligence inputs and in close coordination with Manipur Police, conducted an anti-drug raid in Jiribam district. During the operation, security forces intercepted a truck and recovered a massive consignment of 1,60,000 Yaba tablets, a synthetic drug widely trafficked in the region. The seized drugs are estimated to be worth around ₹40 crore in the illegal market.

The truck driver, identified as Ilaj Ali, 29, a resident of Cachar district in Assam, was taken into custody on the spot. Following standard procedures, both the seized contraband and the accused were handed over to Jiribam Police Station for further legal action and investigation.

Officials stated that these operations are part of intensified efforts by security agencies to dismantle inter-state drug trafficking networks operating in the Northeast. Further investigations are underway to identify links, supply chains, and other individuals involved in the smuggling racket.
