Manipur CM Khemchand Visits Jiribam,Expected to Meet IDPs
Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh arrived in Jiribam on Tuesday and is scheduled to attend a series of official engagements during his visit.
The Chief Minister began his day by visiting the Public Works Department (PWD) guest house to attend the death anniversary ceremony of late Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Deendayal Upadhyay. The programme was organised by the local BJP unit.
Following the ceremony, CM Khemchand is expected to visit a higher secondary school currently serving as a relief shelter for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). The displaced families have been residing in temporary accommodations since May 2023, after ethnic violence broke out between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities in the state.
The Chief Minister is also likely to hold discussions with members of the Hmar community regarding their proposed resettlement at Kalinagar. The issue of rehabilitation and safe return of displaced families remains a key concern in the region.
In addition, CM Khemchand will lay the foundation stone for the 7th India Reserve Battalion (IRB) Building at Jairalpokpi as part of efforts to strengthen security infrastructure.
Meanwhile, tensions persist in Litan, where hundreds of residents reportedly carried out a torch rally and blocked key roads on Monday night, reflecting ongoing unrest in parts of the state.
Authorities have urged citizens to maintain peace and cooperate with ongoing administrative efforts.
