Manipur CM Welcomes ₹10 Per Litre Excise Duty Cut on Petrol, Diesel

Imphal, March 27: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh has welcomed the Centre’s decision to reduce ₹10 per litre in central excise duty on petrol and diesel, stating that the move reflects a strong commitment to easing the financial burden on households.

Key Highlights of the Decision

• ₹10 per litre reduction in central excise duty on petrol and diesel for domestic consumption

• Aim to stabilise fuel prices amid global uncertainty

• Focus on protecting household expenses and livelihoods

CM’s Statement

In a post on social media, the Chief Minister said the decision comes at a crucial time, especially considering the impact of geopolitical tensions in West Asia on global energy markets. He described the move as:

Timely and decisive

• Focused on safeguarding citizens’ interests

• A step towards economic stability and affordability

He emphasised that the reduction would directly benefit ordinary citizens by lowering transportation and daily living costs.

Centre’s Broader Measures

The Chief Minister also highlighted additional steps taken by the Government of India under Narendra Modi:

• Imposition of duties on export of diesel and Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF)

• Ensuring adequate domestic availability of fuel

• Protecting the country from global supply disruptions and price shocks

These measures, he noted, are designed to keep domestic supply stable while prioritising national needs over exports during uncertain times.

Focus on Citizens’ Welfare

Reiterating the government’s approach, Khemchand Singh stated that policies will continue to be:

Citizen-centric

• Aimed at reducing inflationary pressure

• Supportive of economic resilience and public welfare

He underlined that such decisions are crucial to shield people from rising costs of essential commodities, especially fuel, which impacts almost every sector.

Wider Impact

The reduction in excise duty is expected to:

• Lower transport and logistics costs

• Help control inflation

• Provide relief to middle- and lower-income households

The announcement is being seen as a significant step by the Centre to balance global economic pressures with domestic needs, ensuring that citizens are not adversely affected by international market fluctuations.
