Background of the Violence

The recent killings follow the April 18 ambush near T M Kasom along National Highway 202, where two Tangkhul Naga civilians were killed.

That incident had already triggered:

  • Authorities are conducting search and area domination operations
  • The situation remains highly tense, with fears of further escalation

Appeals for Peace

Civil society organisations, including:

  • Tangkhul Naga Long
  • Kuki Organisation for Human Rights Trust

have appealed for restraint and urged all sides to work toward restoring peace and preventing further loss of life.

Wider Context

These incidents are part of the ongoing ethnic conflict in Manipur since May 2023, which has:

  • Displaced thousands of people
  • Caused significant casualties
  • Deepened divisions between communities

The latest killings highlight a worsening security situation in the hill districts, with urgent calls growing for stronger intervention, dialogue, and accountability to prevent further violence.
