Manipur govt disburses Rs 75.4 lakh aid to 754 displaced students under CMCSRS

The Manipur Government on Thursday disbursed financial assistance worth Rs 75.4 lakh to 754 internally displaced students under the Chief Minister’s College Students Rehabilitation Scheme (CMCSRS).

Under the scheme, each student received a one-time assistance of Rs 10,000 through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) directly into their bank accounts.

The distribution programme was held at Imphal College, Kwakeithel, with Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh attending as the chief guest.

Addressing the gathering at Jubilee Hall, the Chief Minister said the government remains committed to supporting students affected by the ongoing ethnic conflict so they can continue their education without interruption.

“I am confident that this assistance will provide meaningful relief and encourage the students to pursue their academic aspirations with determination and hope,” he stated.

According to official figures, more than 58,800 people have been displaced since ethnic violence erupted in Manipur in May 2023. The state currently operates 174 relief camps, while around 3,000 prefabricated houses have been constructed as part of rehabilitation efforts.

The CMCSRS initiative is part of the government’s broader rehabilitation measures aimed at assisting displaced families, especially students whose education has been disrupted by the prolonged crisis.
