Manipur: Head Constable Killed During Anti-Drug Operation; Suspected Drug Dealer Arrested in Thoubal
A tragic anti-drug operation in Manipur claimed the life of a police officer on Wednesday night, while a separate enforcement drive led to the arrest of a suspected drug dealer and the seizure of banned pharmaceutical capsules in Thoubal district.
According to officials, Head Constable Khoirom Suresh, attached to the Manipur Police commando unit in Thoubal district, was fatally injured while attempting to apprehend a suspected drug peddler at Moijing Meena Bazar Thongkhong under Thoubal Police Station.
Police said the officer was allegedly stabbed during the operation and sustained critical injuries. He was immediately rushed to the district hospital for treatment but was later declared dead by doctors.
The incident has sparked concern among law enforcement agencies, highlighting the risks faced by police personnel during anti-narcotics operations and crime-control efforts.
Drug Dealer Arrested with Suspected SP Capsules
In a separate anti-drug enforcement action, police conducted frisking and vehicle-checking operations at Lilong Dam near Nungei under Lilong Police Station.
During the operation, officers arrested MM Warish (33), a resident of Lilong Nungei, on suspicion of involvement in the illegal transportation of banned pharmaceutical substances.
Officials stated that 18 strips of suspected Spasmo-Proxyvon (SP) capsules weighing approximately 115 grams were recovered from his possession. A two-wheeler allegedly used for transportation of the capsules was also seized during the operation.
SP capsules have remained a major concern for law enforcement and health authorities in Manipur due to their widespread misuse and links to substance abuse, particularly among young people.
Investigation Underway
Police have registered separate cases in connection with both incidents and launched further investigations.
Authorities are continuing efforts to identify individuals involved in illegal drug networks while intensifying anti-narcotics operations across the state.
The death of Head Constable Khoirom Suresh has drawn condolences from colleagues and officials, who praised his dedication and service in combating drug-related crimes.
