Manipur: Property Damaged in Grenade Explosion at Imphal East, Note Linked to KCP Recovered

Residents of Kiyamgei Muslim Leikai in Manipur’s Imphal East district were left shaken after a grenade explosion damaged property during the early hours of Saturday, officials said.

According to reports, the incident occurred around 1:15 a.m. within the jurisdiction of Irilbung Police Station when an explosive device landed inside the compound of a local resident. The resulting blast caused substantial damage to a vehicle parked nearby and affected parts of surrounding buildings.

Authorities confirmed that no casualties or injuries were reported despite the intensity of the explosion. However, the blast left visible damage to walls, doors, windows, and other structures in the vicinity.

Soon after the incident, police teams along with forensic experts arrived at the location to examine the scene and collect evidence. Initial investigations revealed that fragments from the explosive device struck several properties, leading to the damage.

During the search operation, investigators recovered a handwritten note bearing the name of the banned insurgent group Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP). Despite the discovery, no organization has officially claimed responsibility for the attack so far.

Police have registered a case and initiated a detailed investigation to identify those involved and determine the exact type of explosive used in the incident.

The attack has drawn strong criticism from local Meira Paibi groups, who expressed concern over the safety of residents. They described the incident as disturbing, particularly because it occurred in a civilian locality situated within a heavily secured area. The community members urged security agencies and the government to strengthen preventive measures and ensure the safety of the public.
