Manipur: Police Bust Drug Syndicate in Churachandpur, Seize Brown Sugar Worth Major Haul and Rs 31 Lakh Cash

Imphal, July 3: In a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking, Manipur Police dismantled an alleged drug syndicate in Churachandpur district on Thursday, arresting three individuals, including two women, and recovering 186 soap cases of suspected brown sugar along with Rs 31.43 lakh in cashbelieved to be linked to the illegal drug trade.

According to officials, the operation was carried out following specific intelligence inputs as part of an ongoing drive against organised drug trafficking networks operating in the district.

The coordinated raid was led by SDPO Jay Barange, IPS, in the presence of Executive Magistrate Satkhogin Kilong. During the first search operation at a residence in Zion Veng, New Lamka, police recovered 186 soap cases containing suspected brown sugar, a derivative of heroin.

The primary accused, Zamngaihlian Tombing (48), was arrested during the raid. During questioning, she allegedly revealed the identity of her suspected supplier, leading investigators to another location.

Acting on the information, police conducted a second raid at the residence of Niangngaihching (43)of Pangzawl. During the search, officers seized Rs 31,43,500 in cash, suspected to be proceeds from drug trafficking, along with a cash-counting machine.

Further investigation led police to a third suspect, Manglunsang Tawtak (36). A subsequent search at his premises resulted in his arrest and the seizure of a white Bolero vehicle (Registration No. MN06LX5142) along with other materials believed to be connected to the alleged drug network.

Police said all three accused have been taken into custody at Churachandpur Police Station, where the seized narcotics, cash, vehicle, and other recovered items have also been deposited.

Officials stated that the investigation is continuing to identify other individuals linked to the syndicate and to trace the wider supply chain behind the trafficking network.

The latest operation is part of Manipur Police’s intensified campaign against narcotics trafficking and organised crime under the state’s ongoing anti-drug enforcement initiatives.
