Manipur: Two Juvenile Kuki Militants Apprehended, Explosives and Ammunition Seized in Joint Operations
Imphal, July 7: Central security forces, in coordination with the Manipur Police, intensified counter-insurgency operations across Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts on Monday, leading to the apprehension of two juvenile Kuki militants and the recovery of arms, ammunition and suspected explosive devices.
According to officials, the two juveniles, identified as active members of the Kuki National Front-Military Council (KNF-MC), were intercepted at a Mobile Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) established at P. Geljang in Churachandpur district during a joint security operation.
Security personnel recovered 77 live rounds of 5.56 mm ammunition from their possession. As both individuals are minors, their identities have not been disclosed. They have been produced before the Juvenile Justice Board for further legal proceedings and rehabilitation in accordance with the law.
Authorities said investigations are underway to determine the extent of their involvement and trace links to the militant network.
In a separate operation conducted the same day, joint security teams carried out area domination and foot patrols in Chiru village, which falls under the jurisdiction of Phayeng and Kangchup Police Stations in Kangpokpi district.
During the search operation, the forces recovered a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) along with four locally fabricated mortar shells. The recovered explosives were secured, and bomb disposal as well as other legal procedures were initiated immediately to ensure public safety.
Police have registered cases in connection with both incidents, and further investigations are in progress.
