Manipur Dy CM Lays Foundation Stone for Rani Gaidinliu Girls’ Hostel in Pune to Support Northeast Students
Imphal, August 3: Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho laid the foundation stone for the Late Smt. Jamnabai Firodia North East India Bhavan – Rani Gaidinliu Girls’ Hostel in Pune on August 2, marking a significant step toward enhancing educational opportunities and providing safe accommodation for students from the Northeastern states.
The hostel project, estimated to cost around ₹10 crore, is being developed by Sarhad, a Pune-based non-governmental organisation recognised for its work in education, national integration, and community development. The foundation stone ceremony was attended by Force Motors Chairman Abhay Firodia, senior journalists from Manipur, and several distinguished guests.
A Home Away from Home for Northeast Students
Speaking at the event, Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho described the hostel as more than just an infrastructure project, calling it a symbol of care, opportunity, and hope for students from the Northeast, especially those affected by the ongoing conflict in Manipur.
He said the hostel would serve as a “home away from home,” offering students a safe, secure, and supportive environment where they can pursue higher education while focusing on their personal and academic growth.
“As India moves towards the vision of Viksit Bharat, every young person, irrespective of where they come from, should have equal access to quality education and opportunities,” Dikho said.
Support for Education and National Integration
The Deputy Chief Minister appreciated Sarhad Founder-President Sanjay Nahar for spearheading the initiative and thanked the Firodia family for their generous support in making the project possible through philanthropy.
Addressing the gathering, Force Motors Chairman Abhay Firodia highlighted the importance of strengthening emotional and cultural bonds between the Northeastern states and the rest of India.
He said the hostel would not only provide accommodation but also act as a bridge promoting national integration, cultural exchange, and mutual understanding among students from different regions of the country.
Project to be Completed in 18 Months
Sarhad Founder-President Sanjay Nahar informed that the hostel is expected to be completed within one-and-a-half years. He expressed confidence that the facility would bring together students from diverse communities, encouraging friendship, harmony, and mutual respect under one roof.
The hostel has been named after Rani Gaidinliu, the legendary freedom fighter from Manipur’s Zeliangrong community, in honour of her immense contribution to India’s freedom movement and her enduring legacy.
The programme concluded with participants reaffirming their commitment to expanding educational opportunities, promoting national integration, and supporting the welfare of students from the Northeastern region.
The upcoming hostel is expected to become an important educational support centre for Northeast students studying in Pune, offering them a secure living environment while strengthening connections between the Northeast and the rest of the country.
