Manipur Government Intensifies Efforts to Set Up Permanent Campus for NIT Manipur
Imphal, August 4: Reaffirming its commitment to strengthening higher technical education in the state, the Manipur government has stepped up efforts to establish a permanent campus for the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Manipur. Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singhannounced that the government is actively coordinating with all concerned stakeholders to facilitate land allocation for the long-awaited project at the earliest.
Speaking at the 13th Convocation Ceremony of NIT Manipur, held at the City Convention Centre in Imphal on Tuesday, the Chief Minister described the institute as a key pillar in the state’s educational and technological development. He stated that a permanent campus would significantly enhance the institution’s academic environment and contribute to the progress of both Manipur and the nation.
Congratulating the graduating students, Khemchand Singh praised their dedication and wished them success in their future careers. He highlighted the growing importance of technical education in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, noting that graduates from disciplines such as Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering will play a vital role in India’s future development.
The Chief Minister emphasized that institutions like NIT Manipur are emerging as leading centres of excellence in Northeast India. He encouraged the graduates to pursue innovation, leadership, and public service while using their knowledge and skills to contribute towards the vision of both Viksit Bharat and Viksit Manipur.
He also acknowledged the efforts of Kakching MLA Rameshwar Singh for supporting the proposal to establish the permanent campus. According to the Chief Minister, discussions with stakeholders will continue to accelerate the land allocation process and move the project forward.
Chairperson of the Board of Governors Bajrang Lal Bagra also extended his congratulations to the graduating students. He urged them to uphold the values of integrity, innovation, ethics, and compassion throughout their professional journey while making meaningful contributions to society and the nation.
During the convocation ceremony, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, Board of Governors Chairperson Bajrang Lal Bagra, and NIT Manipur Director Prof. D.V.L.N. Somayajulu presented gold medals and academic awards to meritorious students in recognition of their outstanding achievements.
The event was attended by Registrar Prof. Khumukcham Tomba Singh, members of the Board of Governors, Academic Senate, deans, faculty members, officers, staff, graduating students, parents, and distinguished guests, marking another significant milestone in the institute’s academic journey.
