Manipur CM Khemchand Singh Urges Unity Among 36 Communities, Highlights Hijam Irawat’s Legacy
Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on September 30 stressed the importance of unity among the state’s 36 communities and said the principles associated with Jana Neta Hijam Irawat continue to hold significance for Manipur.
Addressing the state-level Jana Neta Hijam Irawat Day 2026 programme at Irawat Square in Imphal, Khemchand Singh called on government employees, civil society groups and students to uphold Irawat’s values of sacrifice, public service and social responsibility.
The Chief Minister paid floral tribute at Irawat’s memorial and remembered his role in Manipur’s social and political development, along with his contributions to literature and journalism.
He also recalled Irawat’s efforts to create social awareness and mobilise people for social and political change.
Khemchand Singh emphasised that the people belonging to Manipur’s 36 communities across the hills and valley should continue to promote unity, social harmony and collective development in keeping with Irawat’s vision.
Several ministers, MLAs, former MPs, Chief Secretary Rajeev Singh Thakoor, senior officials, police personnel and students attended the programme.
