Manipur: Missing Head of Naga Man Killed in Makui Attack Recovered After Five Days

The severed head of Ajinpou Ringkamai, a Naga man allegedly killed in an attack by suspected Kuki armed men at Makui village in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district, was recovered by security forces on Wednesday, five days after the incident.

Ringkamai was among four Naga men reportedly killed in the October 10 attack. According to officials, his head had been severed and taken away following the assault.

A joint team of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Manipur Police recovered the missing remains from an area near the incident site. The remains were subsequently taken to the mortuary of the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal.

The recovery came after several Naga organisations issued a 48-hour deadline to the authorities on October 12, demanding that the missing remains be traced.

Meanwhile, the Joint Tribes Council (JTC-Manipur) had suspended the post-mortem examinations of two victims, Dibambou Ringkangmai, 48, and Ajinbou Ringkamai, 52, pending the recovery of the missing head.

The council also demanded the arrest of three individuals — Thangboi Kipgen, David Hangsing and Dr Sailen Haokip — whom it named as alleged perpetrators. The allegations against them have not been independently established.

The JTC accused the authorities of failing to take adequate action against those responsible and alleged that the perpetrators were operating with impunity under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement. It warned of further action if its demands were not fulfilled within the stipulated deadline.

The recovery marks a significant development in the case, with Naga organisations continuing to demand accountability for the killings. Further details regarding the investigation and the post-mortem examinations are awaited.
