Manipur Police Intensifies Crackdown on Motor Vehicle Offences: 51 Challans Issued, Tinted Films Removed
Imphal, August 9, 2025 — The Manipur Police has stepped up its enforcement drive against motor vehicle violations, issuing dozens of challans and taking strict action against the use of illegal tinted films. The move is part of an ongoing effort to enhance road safety, ensure compliance with traffic regulations, and curb offences that pose risks to public safety.
August 8 Drive: 51 Challans, Heavy Fines
On 08.08.2025, traffic enforcement teams across the state issued 51 challans to motor vehicle offenders. The total amount collected in fines stood at ₹88,500. Officials said the violations included a range of offences such as reckless driving, improper documentation, and other breaches of the Motor Vehicles Act.
A senior police officer stated that these fines are not only a deterrent but also a reminder for drivers to respect the rules of the road.
“We will continue such checks on a regular basis. Road safety is non-negotiable, and violators will face strict action,” the officer warned.
August 7 Operation: Crackdown on Illegal Tinted Glass
A day earlier, on 07.08.2025, Manipur Police also took action against vehicles using illegal tinted films, which are prohibited under Supreme Court guidelines due to safety and security concerns. Tinted films from 12 vehicles were removed during the drive.
Officials explained that heavily tinted windows limit visibility, posing a risk for both traffic monitoring and public safety. The measure is aimed at ensuring that vehicles comply with legal visibility limits.
Public Awareness and Safety Goals
The Manipur Police has been combining enforcement with awareness campaigns, urging drivers to follow traffic norms. They have also reminded citizens that compliance with vehicle safety standards benefits everyone on the road by reducing accidents and aiding law enforcement in crime prevention.
Authorities are planning to intensify these operations, especially in urban centres and along major highways, where violations are more frequent.
Appeal to Citizens
Police have appealed to the public to:
- Carry valid driving licences and vehicle documents at all times.
- Avoid illegal modifications such as high-intensity horns, tinted glass, or altered number plates.
- Follow speed limits and traffic signals.
The department has reiterated that those who adhere to the rules have nothing to fear, while repeat offenders will face increasingly severe penalties.
