CM Calls on Governor, Cabinet Induction Expected February 23

Yumnam Khemchand Singh called on Ajay Kumar Bhalla at the Lok Bhavan on Friday evening, marking his first official meeting with the Governor after being sworn in as Chief Minister.

According to an official communiqué, the meeting focused on strengthening initiatives aimed at the welfare and holistic development of the state.

Cabinet Expansion on the Cards

Sources close to the Chief Minister indicated that discussions were also held regarding the induction of the new Council of Ministers and the allocation of portfolios.

Khemchand is likely to visit New Delhi within a day or two to hold consultations with central leaders, including the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister. He is expected to be accompanied by Deputy Chief Ministers Losii Dikho (Mao AC) and Nemcha Kipgen (Kangpokpi AC).

After his return from the national capital, the seven vacant ministerial berths in the state Cabinet may be filled on February 23. Sources further added that portfolios of all ministers could also be allocated on the same day.

Current Cabinet Composition

Notably, Khemchand (Singjamei AC) was sworn in as Chief Minister on February 4, along with Losii Dikho and Nemcha Kipgen as Deputy Chief Ministers.

Govindas Konthoujam (Bishnupur AC) and Khuraijam Loken (Wangoi AC) were also sworn in as Cabinet Ministers on the same day.

With five ministers currently in office, seven positions remain vacant, as the state’s Council of Ministers is constitutionally capped at 12 members. Portfolios of the ministers already sworn in have not yet been allocated.

Further developments are awaited.
