Manipur: Actor Athokpam Gokul Secures Interim Bail in Domestic Assault Case
An FIR has been registered against Athokpam Gokulchandra, popularly known as Gokul, over the alleged physical assault of his wife, Athokpam Ongbi Sonia.
The complaint was lodged by Sonia’s father, Wanglembam Gunajit, at the Women Police Station in Imphal West district. He alleged that his daughter was physically assaulted by her husband following a heated argument after attending a birthday party.
Incident Details
According to reports, the alleged incident took place on February 17 at Gokulchandra’s residence in Langjing Achouba, Imphal West district, where he lives with his wife and children.
The FIR states that Sonia was admitted twice this month to the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) and later underwent psychiatric treatment due to trauma. She is currently staying at her father’s residence.
Court Proceedings
As per legal procedure, police submitted the report to the Court of Judicial Magistrate First Class I on February 23 for further proceedings.
Anticipating possible arrest, Gokulchandra filed an anticipatory bail plea before the Sessions Judge, Imphal West. After hearing submissions from the petitioner’s counsel and reviewing the application, the court granted interim pre-arrest bail.
The court has directed the Imphal West Women Police Station to submit an objection report by March 10.
