Manipur Cyber Police Nab Individual for Spreading Communal Hate Online

Manipur Police have arrested a young man in connection with an alleged attempt to incite communal disharmony through social media, officials said on Saturday. The arrest was made by the cybercrime unit of Imphal East district as part of ongoing efforts to curb the misuse of online platforms to spread hatred and unrest.

The accused has been identified as Mitram Mangal, also known as Napik, aged 21–22, a resident of Nongpok Heirok Maning Leikai in Imphal East district. He was taken into custody from his residence on Friday after police found his involvement in uploading and circulating content that allegedly promoted enmity among different communities in the state.

According to the Manipur Police morning bulletin, the arrest is linked to a video that went viral on Facebook from an account named “Luwang Punshiba.” The video was reportedly examined by cybercrime officials and found to contain material capable of provoking communal tension and disturbing social harmony. Police said the content violated legal provisions related to public order and online conduct.

Manipur, which is home to 36 state government-recognised communities, has been witnessing heightened sensitivity, prompting authorities to closely monitor digital platforms for inflammatory or misleading content. Officials stated that the accused was produced before a magistrate and has been bound down under relevant sections of law to prevent further unlawful activities.

The Manipur Police reiterated their firm commitment to maintaining peace, communal harmony, and law and order across the state. They warned that strict legal action will be taken against individuals who attempt to incite violence, spread hatred, or misuse social media for activities that threaten public unity and stability. Authorities also urged citizens to use online platforms responsibly and report any content that could disrupt social harmony.
