Manipur Government Aims to Complete IDP Resettlement by March 2026

The Manipur government has reaffirmed its commitment to the rehabilitation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), stating that resettlement efforts across the state are progressing steadily and are expected to be completed by March 2026.

In an official statement issued on Thursday, Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel said the administration has been consistently updating the public on rehabilitation measures and remains focused on ensuring the safe and dignified return of displaced families.

The announcement comes amid a call by the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) for a mass rally in Imphal on January 31, alleging that policies of the Centre are threatening peace and territorial integrity in the state. The rally, named “Manipur Kanba Khongchat” (Save Manipur Rally), is expected to draw participants from different communities.

The Chief Secretary noted that a state-level monitoring committee, chaired by him and comprising senior officials including the Commissioner (Home) and the Director General of Police, is overseeing the rehabilitation process. Parallel district-level committees, led by district magistrates, are conducting periodic assessments on the ground.

According to government data, by December 2025, more than 2,200 families involving nearly 10,000 IDPs had been resettled. By January 2026, the figure increased to around 3,700 families, covering approximately 16,500 displaced persons.

To facilitate reconstruction, nearly 7,000 houses have been approved under the Special PMAY-G scheme for completely damaged homes. The state has so far disbursed about Rs 1,124 crore for resettlement and reconstruction efforts.

The government aims to rehabilitate over 10,000 families, impacting more than 40,000 people, by March 31, 2026.
