Manipur Police Detain Havildar, Seize Bulletproof Scorpio in Imphal East

Manipur Police arrested a havildar serving in the state Home Department and seized a bulletproof Scorpio S11 during a routine vehicle check in Imphal East district, officials said on Wednesday.

The arrest was made by a special team comprising Imphal East district police commandos, PCR staff and traffic personnel. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the team set up a checkpoint at Andro Parking Wangkhei under Porompat Police Station.

At around 6 pm, the police intercepted a black bulletproof Scorpio S11 without a registration number and fitted with tinted windows, approaching from the Wangkhei side. Officials said the driver appeared nervous and gave evasive answers when questioned, prompting further inspection.

Upon asking the driver to open the vehicle, police discovered that it was fitted with bulletproof glass, raising serious suspicion. A detailed search of the vehicle led to the recovery of certain illegal items from the dashboard, though authorities did not disclose further details.

The accused was identified as Thounaojam Nilkamal Singh (30), a resident of Malom Tuliyaima Awang Leikai in Imphal West district. Police confirmed that he is a havildar in the Manipur Police.

The accused was taken into custody, and the bulletproof vehicle was seized. A case has been registered under relevant sections of law, and further investigation is currently underway.
