Manipur Police Seize 86,280 Litres of IMFL in Kakching, One Arrested
Manipur Police, in coordination with State Excise officials, seized a huge consignment of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) amounting to 86,280 litres from the Sugnu area of Kakching district. One alleged liquor smuggler was arrested in connection with the case, police said on Thursday.
According to officials, the illegal consignment was being transported from Silchar in Assam to Manipur via National Highway-37. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, Kakching Police alerted the concerned police station and constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) along with Excise officials. Both technical surveillance and ground intelligence were activated to track the smuggling operation.
On Wednesday evening, the SIT arrested Laishram Rajib Singh (37), a resident of Jiri Kalinagar Part-III, who is currently staying at Sugnu Makha Leikai under Sugnu Police Station limits.
During the operation, police seized the following items from his possession:
- 84 bottles of beer (500 ml) of various brands
- 96 bottles of Old Monk (180 ml each)
- 72 bottles of Old Monk (375 ml each)
- 24 bottles of Iconiq White (375 ml each)
- One four-wheeler used for transportation
The seized liquor, the impounded vehicle, and the arrested individual have been handed over to the Excise Department for further legal action under the Manipur Liquor Policy Act, 1991. Investigations are ongoing to identify other individuals involved in the smuggling network.
