Manipur: Security Forces Bust Cross-Border Smuggling Racket, Seize Over 6,400 Liquor Bottles
Security forces in Manipur have uncovered a major cross-border smuggling racket, leading to the seizure of 6,477 bottles of foreign-made liquor and 400 packets of foreign-manufactured cigarettes during a series of operations conducted at T. Bungmol Junction under Moreh police station in Tengnoupal district.
According to official reports, the operations were carried out on Friday, and details were released on Monday.
Two individuals allegedly linked to foreign-based smuggling networks were arrested. They have been identified as:
- Thangjamang Haokip (26) from Yangoubung Village, Moreh
- Haumuanlal Zou (35) from Lhanghoi Village, Tengnoupal
A two-wheeler reportedly used for transporting the illicit goods was also seized.
The confiscated items include:
- 6,140 full bottles,
- 145 half bottles, and
- 192 quarter bottles of liquor of various brands.
Authorities also recovered two cartons of foreign cigarettes, adding up to 400 packets.
Security agencies stated that intensified checking along border routes will continue to curb illegal trade and dismantle smuggling networks operating across the Indo–Myanmar border.
