NH-102 Hit-and-Run Probe Leads to Arrests and Weapon Seizure by Manipur Police

The Manipur Police have arrested multiple suspects and recovered arms in connection with a hit-and-run incident on National Highway-102, marking a major breakthrough within 24 hours of the crime.

On January 22, police arrested three men linked to the hit-and-run case that occurred on January 21near Boroi Makhong under Singjamei Police Station limits. The accident claimed the life of a 56-year-old woman, while her husband sustained injuries.

The deceased was identified as Moirangthem (O) Jibanlata Leima, a resident of Thongju Nepram Leirak. She died on the spot after being struck by a speeding vehicle, police said.

Following swift investigation and technical analysis, police arrested Davidson Thokchom (23) of Bashikhong, Robertson Naorem (24) of Naorem Leikai, Liwa Lambi, and Rohit Okram (23) of Singjamei Chingamakha. The vehicle involved in the incident—a silver Alto K10 bearing registration number MN-06L-6869—was also recovered. Further investigation in the case is ongoing.

Two Extortionists Arrested in Kangpokpi

On the same day, police arrested two alleged extortionists from Motbung Bazaar under Gamnom Saparmeina Police Station in Kangpokpi district. The accused were identified as Kaikhochon Kipgen (29) of Saparmeina village and Kaisei Khongsai (22), a resident of Karbi Anglong district in Assam, currently staying at Jangnom village.

Arms and Explosives Recovered in Imphal East

Meanwhile, security forces recovered a large cache of arms, explosives and communication equipment during a search operation at Uchol village and adjoining foothill areas under Andro Police Station in Imphal East district.

Items seized included:

• One locally made barrel gun

• One .22 rifle with magazine

• Six hand grenades of different types

• 30 live rounds of various calibres

• Four tube-launching devices

• Two BAOFENG wireless sets with chargers

• Tear smoke shells and grenades

• Rubber bullet shells

• Two improvised explosive devices (IEDs), weighing approximately two kilograms each

• Arming rings, helmets, and one SLR magazine

Security officials said area domination and search operations are continuing as part of intensified efforts to curb violence, illegal arms circulation and organised crime across the state.
