Over Rs 3.48 Lakh Collected as Manipur Observes National Road Safety Month

Manipur Police have intensified traffic enforcement across the state in connection with the National Road Safety Month, leading to fines exceeding Rs 3.48 lakh within a short period. The drive aims to improve road discipline and reduce accidents through both awareness and strict monitoring.

Traffic officials confirmed that 265 traffic violation cases were booked during the campaign. Between January 19 and January 25, 2026, police issued 188 challans, collecting Rs 2.74 lakh. Another 77 challans, worth Rs 74,500, were issued from January 5 to January 11.

Enforcement teams also acted against vehicles violating safety norms. One vehicle was detained and 11 vehicles had tinted films removed between January 18 and January 24, while a similar operation between January 4 and January 10 led to the removal of tinted films from three vehicles and the detention of one vehicle.

The road safety drives are being carried out at multiple locations under the guidance of the Superintendent of Police, with active involvement of the Traffic Control Wing. Alongside enforcement, motorists are being educated on safe driving practices through on-the-spot awareness sessions.

Organised annually by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, National Road Safety Month is observed every January. The 2026 theme, ‘Sadak Suraksha, Jeevan Raksha’, reinforces the message that road safety rules are essential for protecting lives.
