PM Modi Highlights Success of Manipur Women Entrepreneurs on Mann Ki Baat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during the December 28 edition of his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat, highlighted the inspiring journeys of women entrepreneurs from Manipur, underscoring the transformative power of blending traditional knowledge with a modern entrepreneurial outlook.

The Prime Minister said Mann Ki Baat provides a platform to showcase individuals who are strengthening local economies by preserving traditional skills while creating new opportunities for their communities. In this context, he lauded the work of Margaret Ramtharsiem from Churachandpur district as a shining example of grassroots innovation and leadership.

Beginning her career as a handicraft artisan, Ramtharsiem envisioned expanding the reach of Manipur’s traditional products, including handicrafts and bamboo- and wood-based items. Through determination and innovation, she established a successful handicraft unit that now provides employment to more than 50 local artisans. Her efforts have helped Manipur’s traditional crafts find markets beyond the state, including in major cities like Delhi, contributing to both economic empowerment and cultural preservation.

Prime Minister Modi also highlighted the story of Chokhone Krichena from Senapati district. Hailing from a family with strong roots in traditional agriculture, Krichena ventured into floriculture, transforming her interest into a sustainable livelihood model. Her initiative has not only connected local produce to broader markets but has also empowered people in her community by creating new income opportunities.

Referring to these success stories, the Prime Minister emphasized that traditional skills, when supported by innovation and a forward-looking mindset, can become strong drivers of economic growth and social change. He urged people across the country to share similar inspiring stories from their regions, noting that such efforts deserve recognition and wider appreciation.
