UP Govt Imposes Complete Ban on Diesel Auto-Rickshaws in Noida and Ghaziabad
Noida/Ghaziabad, November —
In a major step to combat rising air pollution, the Uttar Pradesh government has announced a complete ban on diesel auto-rickshaws in Noida and Ghaziabad with immediate effect. The decision is part of a phased action plan aimed at reducing vehicular emissions and addressing the NCR’s worsening air quality crisis.
The National Capital Region has been experiencing dangerously poor Air Quality Index (AQI) levels in recent weeks, prompting authorities to implement strict pollution-control measures. Diesel autos, identified as significant contributors to particulate matter and toxic emissions, have now been fully phased out from both cities.
Officials said that the ban is expected to push a quicker transition toward CNG and electric auto-rickshaws, aligning with the state’s broader strategy to promote cleaner and sustainable transport.
Transport authorities are expected to issue fresh guidelines to ensure smooth implementation of the ban and to assist existing auto owners in shifting to eco-friendly alternatives.
The new directive comes as part of the government’s commitment to protecting public health and improving the environmental conditions across the NCR.
