Assam Rifles Safely Neutralizes Five IEDs in Tengnoupal District

Tengnoupal, Manipur —

In a swift and highly coordinated operation, the Assam Rifles successfully detected and neutralized five Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in the Pengpalep–Lokchao axis of Tengnoupal district, which borders Myanmar to the south.

According to a Defence Wing statement issued on Sunday, the potentially deadly explosives were first spotted on Saturday by a local individual during a routine patrol of the vulnerable hillside areas. Troops conducting area domination patrols were immediately alerted.

Upon inspection, the vigilant Assam Rifles personnel identified the suspicious objects as explosives and promptly requested assistance from a specialized Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS).

The BDDS team reached the site without delay, cordoned off the area, and implemented precautionary measures to protect nearby villages. During the search, troops discovered an underground bunker-like structure, inside which the five IEDs had been carefully concealed.

Bomb experts confirmed the devices were live and carried out a controlled detonation, safely neutralizing all five IEDs and fully sanitizing the locality.

The Assam Rifles stated that the timely detection and disposal averted a potentially major threat in the region. The case has been formally reported to the local police station, and a case has been registered.

The operation highlights the continued vigilance of security forces in Manipur’s border districts, where the risk of explosives and cross-border militant activity remains a concern.
