Manipur: Security Forces Dismantle 12 Bunkers, Seize Arms and Ammunition

Imphal: In a fresh round of coordinated counter-insurgency operations across Manipur, security forces dismantled 12 illegal bunkers and recovered a significant cache of arms, ammunition, and explosives over the past 36 hours, officials confirmed.

Bunkers Demolished

  • 7 bunkers destroyed under Litan Police Station in Ukhrul district
  • 5 bunkers dismantled under Saikul Police Station in Kangpokpi district
  • Key locations included:
    • Tingpibung village
    • Lungter Hill
    • Leplen village

These bunkers were believed to have been used by armed groups and had posed ongoing security concerns in the region.

Arms and Explosives Recovered

In a separate operation in Churachandpur district, security forces recovered:

  • 1 AK-47 rifle
  • 1 carbine
  • 4 single-bore rifles
  • 1 pistol with magazine
  • Improvised mortars (“pompi”)
  • Grenades and an 81 mm mortar bomb
  • Other explosive materials

Additionally, four Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) were detected and safely destroyed at the site.

Arrests and Detentions

  • One cadre of PREPAK (PRO) apprehended in Kakching district
  • Two suspected insurgents linked to PLA (People’s Liberation Army) and PREPAK (PRO) intercepted near the Indo–Myanmar border in Tengnoupal district
  • Another individual detained in Ukhrul district while allegedly transporting ₹36 lakh in cashacross the border

Joint Operation

The operations were conducted by:

  • Assam Rifles
  • Manipur Police

as part of intensified efforts to curb militant activity and ensure stability in sensitive areas.

Ongoing Security Measures

Officials stated that:

  • All arrested individuals and seized items have been handed over for further legal proceedings
  • Security forces will continue area domination, surveillance, and search operations
  • Focus remains on dismantling militant infrastructure and preventing movement of arms and explosives

Ground Situation

These back-to-back operations highlight the continued push by security agencies to:

  • Neutralize illegal fortified positions
  • Disrupt insurgent networks
  • Improve overall security in both hill and valley districts

While such actions have contributed to reducing armed activity in some areas, authorities remain on high alert given the sensitive law and order situation in the state.
