Manipur: Five KCP-PWG Cadres, Including founder chairman, Arrested in Imphal West
Manipur Police and central security forces on Wednesday arrested five active cadres of the banned outfit Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) [KCP-PWG], including its self-styled founder chairman, during a major operation in Langol area of Imphal West district.
The arrested individuals were identified as:
- Laishram Ranjit Singh (52), alias Tamnganba, Apik and Loya, self-styled founder chairman of KCP-PWG, from Yurembam Awang Leikai, Imphal West
- Oinam Somenchandra Singh (42), alias Macha, Moirangjao and Karangjao, originally from Thanga Karang Mamang Leikai, Bishnupur, currently residing at Langol
- Arambam Birkumar (52), alias Kanba and BK, from Sekmai Kanglatombi Mantriband, Imphal West
- Maibam Tomba Singh (39), alias Loya, from Tentha Khunjao, Thoubal district
- Chabungbam Lamnganba Meitei (38), alias Wangba, from Heibongpokpi Maning Leikai, Imphal West
Officials said the banned militant group has allegedly been involved in extortion, regrouping and armed activities in several valley districts of Manipur.
During the operation, security personnel recovered five mobile phones and three Aadhaar cards from the arrested cadres.
In a separate operation conducted near Loktak Mapal under Moirang Police Station in Bishnupur district, security forces also recovered a large cache of arms and explosives. The seized items included a bolt-action rifle, a 9 mm pistol with magazine, HE-36 hand grenades, smoke grenades, mortar shells, anti-aircraft ammunition, gelatin sticks, improvised rocket mortar equipment, assorted live ammunition, stun grenades, a Baofeng radio set and bulletproof plates.
Police said all arrested persons and recovered materials have been handed over to the respective police stations for further investigation and legal action.
