Four Reportedly Killed in Ambush Near Kotlen Village, Including Church Leader

The ambush near Kotlen village in Manipur on May 13 has reportedly left four people dead, including prominent church leader Rev. V. Sitlhou, while several others sustained injuries.

According to initial reports, the victims were travelling in two vehicles from Churachandpur to Kangpokpi after attending the United Baptist Convention (UBC) Conference at Chiengkonpang, Lamka, when unidentified armed miscreants attacked them between Kotzim and Kotlen villages.

Those reported injured include:

  • Rev. SM Haopu
  • Rev. Hekai Simte
  • Rev. Kaigoulun
  • Rev. Paothang
  • Pastor Paogou
  • Drivers identified as Lelen and Goumang

Sources said the attack occurred in the morning hours, triggering panic in the area. Security forces are expected to launch search and area domination operations following the incident.

The killing has further heightened tensions in Manipur, where sporadic violence and armed attacks have continued in several hill districts amid the prolonged ethnic conflict.

Authorities have not yet released an official statement confirming the final casualty figure or identifying those responsible for the ambush.
