Mukesh Singh Arrives in Imphal, Set to Take Charge as Manipur DGP on June 1
Mukesh Singh arrived in Imphal on May 30 and is set to formally assume charge as the Director General of Police (DGP) of Manipur from June 1, according to officials.
The newly appointed police chief was received at Imphal Airport by senior officers of the Manipur Police after arriving from New Delhi.
Mukesh Singh will succeed Rajiv Singh, a 1993-batch IPS officer who took charge of the state police force during the height of the ethnic violence in June 2023.
Rajiv Singh has been transferred by the Central Government and appointed as Secretary (Security) in the Cabinet Secretariat in New Delhi after completing his tenure in Manipur.
A 1996-batch IPS officer, Mukesh Singh most recently served as the police chief of Ladakh and brings extensive experience in policing, security management, and administration.
The Central Government recently approved his inter-cadre deputation from the AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram and Union Territories) cadre to the Manipur cadre for a period of three years. The appointment was formally cleared by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).
Officials stated that Mukesh Singh will assume leadership of the Manipur Police at a crucial time as the state continues efforts to restore normalcy, strengthen law and order, and enhance security measures in conflict-affected areas.
His appointment comes amid ongoing initiatives to improve policing infrastructure, modernisation efforts, and coordination among security agencies operating across the state.
