FCI Rice Transport Vehicle Ambushed by suspected Kuki Militants in Ukhrul, Driver Killed and Police Personnel Injured

A civilian truck driver transporting rice under the Food Corporation of India (FCI) was killed and a police personnel injured after suspected Kuki militants allegedly ambushed the vehicle along the Imphal–Ukhrul road near Yaolen village under Litan Police Station in Ukhrul district on Thursday morning.

According to reports, the attack took place at around 10 am when armed assailants opened fire on the vehicle transporting essential food supplies. Bullets reportedly struck the civilian truck driver, who died on the spot during the ambush.

A police personnel identified as Disingam Maringmei (34), a resident of Sangaiprou Kabui, also sustained injuries during the incident. Officials said he suffered a bullet injury to his knee and was immediately shifted to the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) Hospital for medical treatment.

Following the incident, Govindas Konthoujam visited JNIMS Hospital to enquire about the condition of the injured police personnel. He also visited the JNIMS morgue, where the body of the deceased truck driver, reportedly a resident of Kolkata, was kept.

Speaking to media persons, the Home Minister stated that the government would examine possible security lapses surrounding the attack and assured that necessary action would be taken against those responsible.

Security forces have reportedly intensified operations in the surrounding areas following the ambush as authorities continue investigations into the incident.

The attack has once again raised concerns over the security situation along key transport routes in violence-affected regions of Manipur, particularly on roads used for the movement of essential supplies under security escort.
