Assam Flood Death Toll Reaches 66; CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Announces ₹12 Crore Relief Drive

Guwahati, Assam | July 26: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday announced a ₹12 crore relief campaign to support families affected by the ongoing floods, as the state’s flood-related death toll climbed to 66, including one fatality reported from Guwahati Urban.

The Chief Minister also appealed to BJP workers and supporters across Assam to actively participate in relief efforts and extend assistance to flood-hit communities.

Flood Death Toll Reaches 66

Addressing the media, Himanta Biswa Sarma said the devastating floods have claimed 66 lives across Assam so far, with the latest death reported from Guwahati Urban.

The state government continues to monitor the flood situation while carrying out rescue, rehabilitation, and relief operations in affected districts.

₹12 Crore Relief Drive Launched

To provide immediate assistance to flood victims, the Assam BJP has launched a ₹12 crore relief initiative aimed at helping women and children impacted by the disaster.

Under the campaign, the party plans to distribute:

• 2 lakh Mekhela-Chadors to flood-affected women.
• Clothing for 2 lakh children across the state.

The initiative is intended to ensure that essential clothing reaches vulnerable families as quickly as possible.

Appeal for Public Contributions

Chief Minister Sarma called upon BJP workers and well-wishers to contribute generously to the relief campaign.

He said individuals wishing to donate less than ₹2,000 can hand over their contributions to their respective local MLAs, while those contributing more than ₹2,000 may transfer the amount directly to the party’s designated bank account. The account details, he added, will be shared through official social media platforms.

Support Pouring In from Across India

The Chief Minister said BJP workers from Assam as well as other parts of the country have assured their support for the relief campaign.

Expressing optimism, Sarma said he expects the ₹12 crore target to be achieved within the next four to five days, allowing relief materials to be distributed without delay.

Relief to Focus on Four Worst-Affected Districts

According to the Chief Minister, the first phase of assistance will primarily benefit flood-affected families in the districts of:

• Sivasagar
• Charaideo
• Golaghat
• Jorhat

The relief materials will be delivered to support families struggling to recover from the impact of the floods.

Government Continues Flood Response

The Assam Government has reiterated its commitment to providing timely relief and rehabilitation to flood-affected residents. Alongside government efforts, the participation of volunteers, community organisations, and citizens is expected to play a key role in supporting recovery efforts across the state.
