Manipur: Two Women Arrested in Imphal East for Alleged Illegal Arms Trade, Hand Grenade Recovered
Imphal, July 30: Manipur Police have arrested two women in connection with an alleged illegal arms and explosives trafficking case in Imphal East district, recovering a hand grenade during the operation.
According to police officials, the arrests were made on July 29 at Shanta Bazar under the jurisdiction of Andro Police Station following specific intelligence inputs regarding the suspected movement of explosives.
The accused have been identified as Ruhida Begum (46) and Rohana Begum (18).
Police said the two women were allegedly carrying a hand grenade to Shanta Bazar with the intention of selling it to a prospective buyer. Acting swiftly on the information received, a police team intercepted the suspects and recovered the explosive device from their possession before the alleged transaction could take place.
Both women were taken into custody, while the recovered hand grenade was safely seized for further examination and legal proceedings.
Officials stated that an investigation is currently underway to determine the origin of the explosive and uncover any wider network involved in the illegal procurement, transportation, and distribution of arms and explosives in the state.
Police are also examining whether other individuals or organised groups may be connected to the alleged arms trafficking operation. Further arrests and recoveries are not being ruled out as the investigation progresses.
The latest operation forms part of the ongoing efforts by Manipur Police to curb the illegal circulation of arms and explosives and strengthen security across the state.
