Centre Releases ₹682 Crore Advance Tax Devolution to Manipur to Boost Development Projects
Imphal, August 2: The Government of India has released an advance tax devolution of ₹682 croreto Manipur as part of a nationwide allocation of ₹1,09,019 crore, aimed at supporting states in accelerating capital expenditure and infrastructure development.
According to the Ministry of Finance, the advance release is in addition to the regular monthly tax devolution scheduled for August 10, 2026. The special allocation is intended to provide states with additional financial resources to fast-track development projects and improve public infrastructure.
Under the existing tax-sharing mechanism, the Centre distributes 41 percent of the net proceeds of central taxes among states through 14 instalments each financial year, ensuring a steady flow of funds for governance and development.
Chief Minister Thanks Centre
Welcoming the allocation, Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for the financial support.
In a social media post, the Chief Minister said the advance release would strengthen the state’s ongoing development initiatives.
“This timely support will significantly strengthen our development initiatives and accelerate the state’s progress. On behalf of the people of Manipur, I convey my heartfelt thanks to the Government of India for its continued support,” he stated.
State-Wise Allocation
Among all states, Uttar Pradesh received the largest share with ₹19,208 crore, followed by Bihar (₹10,845 crore), Madhya Pradesh (₹8,010 crore), West Bengal (₹7,866 crore), and Maharashtra (₹7,022 crore).
Other major allocations included:
- Rajasthan – ₹6,460 crore
- Odisha – ₹4,819 crore
- Andhra Pradesh – ₹4,597 crore
- Karnataka – ₹4,504 crore
- Tamil Nadu – ₹4,466 crore
- Gujarat – ₹4,094 crore
- Jharkhand – ₹3,660 crore
- Chhattisgarh – ₹3,602 crore
- Assam – ₹3,552 crore
- Kerala – ₹2,597 crore
- Telangana – ₹2,370 crore
- Punjab – ₹2,176 crore
Among the northeastern and smaller states, Tripura received ₹699 crore, Meghalaya ₹688 crore, Manipur ₹682 crore, Mizoram ₹615 crore, Nagaland ₹524 crore, Arunachal Pradesh ₹1,476 crore, and Sikkim ₹365 crore.
Development Push
The advance tax devolution is expected to provide Manipur with additional financial flexibility to fund key infrastructure projects, public welfare schemes, and capital investments. The allocation comes as the state continues to focus on strengthening roads, public services, education, healthcare, and other development sectors.
The Centre’s financial assistance is expected to help accelerate ongoing projects while enabling the state government to undertake new initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for residents.
