MANIPUR NATIONAL LOK ADALAT SETTLES 404 CASES, FACILITATES ₹5.20 CRORE IN SETTLEMENTS
Imphal, September 12: The third National Lok Adalat of 2026 in Manipur settled 404 cases, resulting in settlements worth ₹5,20,51,973 across all nine judicial districts and the High Court of Manipur.
The one-day legal settlement exercise was organised by the Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) in coordination with the High Court Legal Services Committee (HCLSC) and District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs).
The Lok Adalat addressed both pre-litigation disputes and cases pending before courts, including civil suits, money recovery matters, matrimonial disputes, Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) cases and bank recovery proceedings.
Chief Justice of the High Court of Manipur and MASLSA Patron-in-Chief, Justice M. Sundar, visited the proceedings at the Lamphel Court Complex along with HCLSC Chairman Justice A. Guneshwar Sharma. They interacted with judicial officers, advocates and litigants and presented awards to parties who successfully reached settlements.
Justice Sundar stressed that Lok Adalats provide a quick and mutually acceptable method of resolving disputes, helping litigants avoid lengthy court proceedings. He noted that the September sitting was the third National Lok Adalat held in Manipur this year, following sessions conducted in March and May.
He also highlighted the settlement of financial disputes, noting that participating banks were authorised to offer significant concessions to borrowers. In some cases, concessions included waivers of more than 50% of the principal amount, while interest was fully waived in deserving cases.
Justice Sundar encouraged people across Manipur to use Lok Adalats and other alternative dispute resolution mechanisms to settle disputes amicably.
The fourth National Lok Adalat of 2026 is scheduled to be held on December 12, and litigants have been urged to participate in large numbers.
Meanwhile, MASLSA Executive Chairman Justice A. Bimol Singh inspected the proceedings at the Thoubal Court Complex and presented awards to parties who resolved their disputes through the Lok Adalat.
