Manipur: Four Nagas Killed in Alleged KNA-B Attack in Kamjong
Four Tangkhul Naga civilians were reportedly killed in a cross-border attack at Pilong village near the India-Myanmar border in Manipur’s Kamjong district on Thursday. The incident took place in the border area, around 35 km from the Kamjong district headquarters.
The Working Committee of Tangkhul Naga Long (WC-TNL) alleged that cadres of the Kuki National Army-Burma (KNA-B) and other armed Kuki elements backed by Myanmar-based People’s Defence Force (PDF) were involved in the attack. The allegation has not been independently verified.
According to the WC-TNL, two civilians were shot near Pilong, while two others were allegedly taken towards adjoining Phailen and killed. The deceased were identified as Betterson Jajo of Kangpat Khunou; Vareishim Jajo and his son Phami Jajo of Kangpat Khullen; and Ningthem Kashak of Zingsui village.
Five civilians were reportedly present in the area when the attack occurred. One of them, Akhan Kaping of Hunphun village in Ukhrul district, managed to escape and was later rescued by Tangkhul civil society groups.
The WC-TNL described the incident as the third such attack on Naga villagers along the India-Myanmar border in Kamjong district and criticised the state government and security forces, including the Assam Rifles, over the alleged failure to protect vulnerable border residents.
