Manipur AFSPA Extended for Six Months from October 1
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has extended the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA), 1958, in most parts of Manipur for another six months, effective from October 1, 2026, following a review of the law-and-order situation in the state.
Under the latest notification, the entire state has been declared a “disturbed area”, except areas under 13 police stations across five districts. The excluded areas are in Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur and Kakching districts.
The 13 excluded police stations are Imphal, Lamphel, City, Singjamei, Patsoi and Wangoi in Imphal West; Porompat, Heingang and Irilbung in Imphal East; Thoubal in Thoubal; Bishnupur and Nambolin Bishnupur; and Kakching in Kakching district.
The extension has been issued under Section 3 of the AFSPA, which allows the Central Government to declare an area “disturbed” when it considers the use of armed forces necessary to assist civil authorities. The order will remain effective for six months from October 1, unless withdrawn earlier.
