Manipur: Kuki-Zo Council Gives October 10 Deadline Over Bodies at Churachandpur Hospital
The Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) has given the government until October 10 to resolve the issue of community members’ bodies kept at the morgue of Churachandpur District Hospital. The council said protests could be intensified if the matter is not addressed within the deadline.
The decision was taken during a six-hour leadership consultation held at the Kangpokpi district headquarters on Tuesday. The KZC also renewed its demand for a Union Territory with a legislature.
The consultation was organised by the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) under the theme “Unity, Consultation, Progress.” Political leaders, civil society representatives, religious leaders and academics attended the meeting, where discussions centred on improving unity and coordination among different community groups.
KZC chairman Henlenthang said the consultation was part of a series of regional meetings aimed at resolving political differences and strengthening coordination among community leaders.
The leaders also reaffirmed their demand for territorial autonomy and maintained that the Kuki National Organisation (KNO) and United People’s Front (UPF) would remain the designated representatives for political discussions with the government.
The development comes amid continued efforts by Kuki-Zo organisations to raise political and humanitarian issues linked to the ongoing conflict in Manipur.
