RIMS Forms Four-Member Enquiry Committee into Woman’s Death After Childbirth

Imphal, October 14, 2026: The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, has formed a four-member enquiry committee to investigate the death of a 25-year-old woman following childbirth at the institute.

According to an official press release issued on Wednesday, a post-mortem examination was scheduled for the day to determine the cause of death. The enquiry committee is expected to submit its report within three working days, after which appropriate action will be taken based on its findings and the applicable rules and procedures.

RIMS assured that the incident would be examined objectively and that all concerns related to the case would be duly considered.

The institute also condemned the vandalism and damage to public property on its premises following the incident, stating that such acts could disrupt essential healthcare services and affect patients requiring medical attention.

Expressing sympathy for the bereaved family, RIMS acknowledged their grief and said that childbirth-related complications could sometimes result in tragic outcomes despite the efforts of doctors and healthcare personnel. It urged the public to await the findings of the enquiry and post-mortem examination rather than rely on speculation.

The institute appealed to everyone concerned to maintain peace, exercise restraint and allow the established investigation procedures to proceed.
