Manipur’s Rajkumari Lanchenbi Chanu Wins Historic Bronze in Wushu at Youth Olympics, Becomes India’s First Medallist
Dakar, November 4, 2026: Manipur’s Rajkumari Lanchenbi Chanu has created history by winning a bronze medal for India in the women’s Changquan Combined Wushu event at the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal, on Tuesday.
Representing India, Rajkumari secured a combined score of 18.039 points, including 8.723 in Gunshu and 9.316 in Changquan, to finish third and claim the bronze medal.
With this achievement, she became India’s first-ever Wushu medallist at the Youth Olympic Games, where Wushu is making its debut as a medal event at Dakar 2026.
Egypt’s Sondos Sonbol won the gold medal with 18.660 points, while Venezuela’s Valeria Frannerys Dudamel Alvarado secured silver with 18.199 points.
Rajkumari was initially placed fourth after her Gunshu routine but improved her position following an impressive Changquan performance to secure a place on the podium.
Before competing in Dakar, the Manipur athlete had also won bronze in the girls’ youth Changquan event at the 2026 World Junior Wushu Championships held in Tianjin, China.
Hailing from Manipur, a state with a strong tradition in Wushu, Rajkumari’s achievement adds another milestone to the state’s contribution to Indian sports. Notably, Naorem Roshibina Devi, India’s only Wushu medallist at the 2026 Asian Games, also belongs to Manipur.
Her historic bronze became India’s third medal at the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, taking the country’s overall tally to one silver and two bronze medals.
Rajkumari Lanchenbi Chanu’s achievement marks another proud moment for Manipur and Indian Wushu.
