New Delhi/Imphal, November 4, 2026: A fresh anticipatory bail application has been filed on behalf of Inner Manipur MP and dismissed Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) professor Dr. Angomcha Bimol Akoijam in connection with an alleged sexual assault case registered at Vasant Kunj North Police Station under FIR No. 309 of 2026.
During the proceedings on Wednesday, the applicant’s counsel informed the court that the Additional Sessions Judge (Fast Track Court), Manipur East, had initially granted interim protection to the applicant through an order dated October 12, 2026, which was subsequently extended until October 29, 2026.
Meanwhile, another anticipatory bail application was filed before the Additional Sessions Judge at Patiala House Courts, New Delhi. The applicant was initially granted protection until November 2, 2026. However, the court subsequently observed that the matter concerned a Member of Parliament and that it did not have the appropriate jurisdiction, following which the applicant was directed to approach the Rouse Avenue District Courts.
According to the notice issued to the concerned Station House Officer (SHO) and Investigating Officer (IO) of Vasant Kunj North Police Station, the court has sought interim protection for the applicant until the next hearing. The protection shall remain extended, and no coercive process shall be adopted against the applicant in connection with the present case during this period.
The Investigating Officer has also been directed to appear physically before the court along with the police file. The order was issued by the Special Judge (PC Act) (CBI)-09, dealing with MPs/MLAs cases at Rouse Avenue District Court, New Delhi, and was handed over to both parties through dasti service.
The matter is expected to be taken up at the next hearing.
