Assam Rifles and Indian Army Celebrate Ningol Chakkouba with Communities Across Manipur
Imphal, October 22, 2025:
In a heartfelt celebration of Manipur’s cherished festival of Ningol Chakkouba, communities across Kakching, Pallel, Bijoypur, and Bishnupur District witnessed joyous gatherings organized by the Assam Rifles and the Indian Army. The twin celebrations on October 20 and 22 highlighted unity, cultural pride, and emotional solidarity between the armed forces and the people of Manipur.
According to a statement issued by IGAR (South), the first event was held on October 20 at Kakching Khunou, where Assam Rifles personnel celebrated Ningol Chakkouba with 387 residents of Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps, including 139 men, 167 women, and 81 children. The festival began with a traditional Manipuri welcome, followed by heartfelt greetings and a communal feast featuring authentic local cuisine.
In the true spirit of Ningol Chakkouba — which celebrates the sacred bond between brothers and sisters — Assam Rifles personnel invited Ningols (married women) and children to join the festivities. Gifts, sweets, and essential household items were distributed, bringing moments of happiness and comfort to families facing displacement and hardship.
Continuing the festive fervour, a second celebration took place on October 22 at Pallel Garrison, where around 70 Meira Paibis from Pallel, Bijoypur, and Kakching gathered with Assam Rifles troops. The event featured lively cultural exchanges, traditional meals, and warm camaraderie. The presence of Meira Paibis — revered for their role as pillars of strength and dignity in Manipuri society — lent added significance to the celebration.
In total, 28 Assam Rifles personnel participated across both events, reinforcing their enduring commitment to fostering civil-military harmony and building bridges of trust with local communities.
Meanwhile, in Bishnupur District, the Indian Army also marked Ningol Chakkouba with residents of the Internally Displaced People’s (IDP) Relief Camp at Terakhongsangbi. Around 100 women and children joined the celebration, which featured traditional games, interactive sessions, and a shared community meal. Gifts were also exchanged, reflecting the Army’s commitment to compassion, support, and cultural connection.
Both the Assam Rifles and Indian Army’s initiatives underscore their role as not just protectors, but as partners in peace and community development. By embracing the cultural heritage of Manipur and standing beside its people in times of difficulty, the Forces continue to uphold their reputation as the “Sentinels of the North East” — bringing light, hope, and unity to every corner of the region.
