JFD Announces 24-Hour Strike Over Census, NRC Demand

Imphal, August 28, 2026: The Campaign for Just and Fair Delimitation (JFD) has announced a 24-hour statewide general strike from midnight of August 31 to midnight of September 1 if the Centre fails to officially decide by August 31 to defer the Census and update the National Register of Citizens (NRC) first.

JFD Convenor Jeetendra Ningombam said the Centre must clarify its position on the public demand of “No NRC, No Census.”

He also urged that the issue be discussed during the upcoming Manipur Assembly session scheduled for September 2, 3 and 7.

Jeetendra Ningombam also appealed to the public not to allow musical activities, Housie (Tambola) and similar programmes during the strike period.

Jeetendra Ningombam said the public would march towards the Assembly on September 7 to press the demand and hear the House’s decision.
