Manipur Deputy CM L Dikho Urges Nemcha Kipgen to Ask Husband to Stop Killing Nagas

Imphal, October 17: Manipur Deputy Chief Minister L. Dikho on Saturday urged his cabinet colleague Nemcha Kipgen to ask her husband and their cadres to stop attacks on Naga communities.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a programme, Dikho said Kipgen should urge her husband and his cadres to stop killing Nagas. He also called on her to come to Imphal and discharge her official responsibilities from the state capital.

“We also want her to come here (Imphal),” Dikho said.

His remarks came amid allegations by Naga organisations that Thangboi Kipgen, Nemcha Kipgen’s husband and a leader of the Kuki National Front (President), was involved in armed attacks on Naga villages in Manipur.

Naga legislators, including Dikho, had previously demanded Kipgen’s removal from the post of Deputy Chief Minister.

The KNF (P) is a signatory to the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement involving the Centre, the Manipur government and several Kuki and Zomi militant organisations.

Commenting on poppy cultivation in the state, Dikho said that extensive cultivation had left mountain ranges in Senapati and Ukhrul districts barren.
