Manipur Journalist Shot At, Assaulted in Late-Night Attack in Imphal
A senior journalist was shot at and physically assaulted by unidentified armed men in Imphal East late on February 18, triggering concern within media circles.
According to reports, Khoirom Loyalakpa, editor of the local vernacular daily Naharol Thoudang, was ambushed near the Hatta cemetery around 10 pm. The assailants allegedly fired two rounds at his four-wheeler before confronting and beating him at the spot.
Loyalakpa was later admitted to the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), where he is currently undergoing treatment. His medical condition has not been officially disclosed.
A case has been registered at Porompat Police Station. However, no arrests have been made so far, and the identities and motives of the attackers remain unknown.
