Manipur: Police Seize 1,300 Urea Bags, Probe Suspected Smuggling Network
Manipur Police have seized 1,300 bags of urea during separate operations and detained several vehicles, officials said on Sunday.
Police intercepted vehicles on September 23, recovering 1,200 bags of urea. In a follow-up operation on September 25, another 100 bags were seized.
A formal inquiry has been launched into the seizures. The District Agriculture Officer, Bishnupur, has been asked to verify the seized fertilizer and recommend further action.
Authorities have linked the illegal diversion of urea to networks involved in poppy cultivation and cross-border trafficking towards Myanmar. Officials have previously reported recovering urea from areas associated with illegal poppy plantations.
The latest seizures will be examined to determine the origin, intended destination and legality of the fertilizer.
