Imphal: Security forces on Monday apprehended a senior cadre of the banned Revolutionary People’s Front/People’s Liberation Army (RPF/PLA) during an operation in Imphal West district, officials confirmed.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the team arrested Kshetrimayum Nilakanta Singh, also known as Kanta or Mangal (51), from Takyel Kolom Leikai Leirak-6 under the jurisdiction of Lamphel Police Station. A native of Kakching Turel Wangma in Kakching district, Singh was also staying at Langjing Achouba Awang Leikai in Imphal West.
Two mobile phones and a driving licence were recovered from his possession during the arrest. Officials said further investigation is underway to ascertain his involvement and operational links with the proscribed outfit.
In a separate but related operation on the same day, security forces recovered a cache of arms and communication equipment from the Konaitong–Pelyang hill range under Machi Police Station in Tengnoupal district. The seizure included two improvised mortars and three wireless communication sets.
Authorities said the arrest and recoveries are part of intensified counter-insurgency operations aimed at dismantling militant networks and strengthening law and order across Manipur.
