Manipur: Three Militants Arrested, Jailed KCP Chairman Formally Arrested in Fresh FIR Case

Imphal, June 29: Security forces and the Manipur Police carried out a series of coordinated operations on June 27, leading to the arrest of three alleged militants linked to different insurgent outfits, while a jailed Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) leader was formally arrested in connection with an ongoing criminal investigation.

In one of the operations, security personnel apprehended two alleged cadres of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP-PSC) who were reportedly involved in extortion activities.

The arrested individuals were identified as Koijam Lamyanba Meitei alias Punshiba alias Ningol (23), a resident of Yairipok Malom Mamang Leikai in Thoubal district, who was arrested near the FCI Godown at Sangaiprou in Imphal West district, and Lourembam Rojit alias Lamnganba alias Pukhri (19), a resident of Chandrakhong Mayai Leikai in Thoubal district, who was apprehended from the Ningel Lamkhai area near Yairipok in Thoubal district.

In a separate operation conducted on the same day, security forces arrested an alleged self-styled Captain of the Revolutionary People’s Front/People’s Liberation Army (RPF/PLA). The individual was identified as Thokchom Bango Singh alias Ibopishak alias Utomba (44) and was arrested from the Khongjom area under Khongjom Police Station in Thoubal district.

During the operation, security personnel recovered one 9 mm pistol with a magazine97 rounds of live ammunition, and a Toyota Fortuner without a registration number.

Meanwhile, in a separate development, Manipur Police formally arrested Haobijam Dilip Singh alias Taibangnganba (52), the chairman of KCP (Taibangnganba), in connection with an FIR registered at Singjamei Police Station.

Police said Singh, a resident of Keibul Lamjao who is presently residing at Bishnupur Mamang Awang Leikai in Bishnupur district, was brought from Tihar Jail, where he had been lodged in another case, before being formally arrested under the new FIR.

Officials confirmed that legal proceedings have been initiated against all the accused, and investigations into the respective cases are continuing.

The latest arrests are part of the ongoing security operations being conducted by Manipur Police and central security forces to curb insurgent activities, extortion, and the illegal possession of arms across the state.
